I Made a T-Shirt!

I've never attempted this before. A first. I bought knit fabric at Fabric Depot's outdoor sale for $3.00/yard, I got a pattern (by Figgy's - Tee For Two), and away I went. I traced and cut last night, went over design options with my 4-yr-old this morning before school, and sewed the whole thing while fighting off an active 2 year old this afternoon.

It was actually pretty easy - and I'm generally not a knits person.  He loves his new pirate ship shirt! It's pretty darn cool looking, for being made by his Mom ;)

I think I'll make a bunch of these, since I have like 10 yards of knits now, and I only used about a 1/2 for this.   Cheers All,  hope back to school is treating you all well!

  1. That looks great! How did you make the design in the middle? Is it appliqued? In the pictures it almost looks screenprinted.

  2. Anne, it's a reverse applique, the orange fabric is sewn to the back side and the design is cut out of the front fabric. Thanks for your comment!

  4. It's a great shirt! I'd like to draft and make knit shirts for myself one day. Did you use a serger or your sewing machine?

  6. Thanks Ladies! Jackie, this pattern is great, because you don't need a serger to make it, she has great instructions for just using your regular machine. I did however use a serger for a few of the seams, just because I have one and have not used it for knits before.
