Sewing Summit - Was it All a Dream?

 *giveaway now closed*

So I spent last weekend in Salt Lake City at the Sewing Summit. It's a super cool sewing/blogging conference that's going to happen once a year - this was the first one. It was awesome. No really - Awesome.  It was so super cool to meet up with all these ladies that are super into sewing and creating and design. Loved it - very inspiring, I'll totally go again next year. I didn't take a camera, so here are some of my horrible phone pics of the Fabric Shop Hop I went on last Friday. Was it just a week ago? It kind of all seems like a dream already.

50 fab ladies on a bus shopping for fabric. Noone threw up (bus driver was sketchy).

There were ducks hanging out in front of Pine Needles Shop

This creepy thing was also hanging out there. Who did this, and why?

Monica got a pretty end cap at Material Girls shop - I touched it a bit

Worst picture ever - my loot from the shop hop. Not too much damage done...

Seriously cute faces I cam back to after 3 nights. One is flipping me off and the other is putting on her 'smile' face. They were way more into the salt water taffy that I brought them, than me.

So overall, it was a blast, I learned, I met awesome peeps, I laughed (a lot), I drank (a little), I crocheted (more on that later), and I just had a big smile on the whole time.

I'm not the best writer - many others have summed things up alot better than I can. Check it out.

OK, I have actually been back for awhile and I have sewn 1 thing...

My fave local quilt shop is Cool Cottons... I live literally 3 blocks from it. If you ever see me there in a car, shame on me.  A couple of weeks ago I was in there and found this super weird/cool fabric with dress patterns all over it. I had to have it.

Not long after, the Quilt Club started up, and I found the perfect use for that fabric. Here's my 1st 'homework' block from quilt club. I screwed it up, then compensated for it. I like it, it's a little funky. I think I'll use this same combo of fabrics for the whole club quilt.

OK, WOW, long post - sorry. So if you made it this far, how about a treat?  Maybe a giveaway? One lucky reader will receive their choice of 1 item from my shop - just leave a comment telling me which one sounds best...I just added some new ones too!  1 comment per reader - and I'm gonna make this a quickie, because my hubs is having hernia surgery next tuesday, so I'll pick a winner at 5pm on monday the 17th, hurry up, and make sure I can find you.   Cheers all, have a happy and safe weekend

  1. That is such cool fabric! And you made a great block with it, too! All I could think of when I read "Quilt Club" was...first rule of quilt club: you do not talk about quilt club. Ok, enough of that. Good luck to your hubs on his surgery! The Drunkard's Path template looks cool. Thanks!

  3. My husband had hernia surgery about 2 months ago and it has been such a great thing. He is more comfortable than he has been for a long time. I hope your results are as good. The 5" ruler would be very useful for squaring up and fussy cutting. Thanks for the chance.

  4. This looks like such fun!! I really hope I can go next year. :D And a lovely giveaway as well! I'd love the 5" ruler, that just seems so handy for making my own charms. :)

Thank you for the giveaway and good luck to your husband on his surgery!

  5. I was just talking up your shop at my meeting of Quilt Club (thank you so much for telling me about it). Someone asked about her magic wand ruler and I mentioned that you make them... except I don't see any in your shop. And then later that day I was in Modern Domestic and your name came up again. I hope your hubby's sugery goes well.

  8. Love the Retro Flowers template -- that quilt is one of my favorites! I saw these rulers in the silent auction at the Sewing Summit and they look just great :) Wishing your husband a smooth surgery and speedy recovery :)

  10. The sewing summit sounds AMAZING! I would pick the 2.5 inch square. I have your Retro Flowers and just ordered the 1 inch hexies last night (against my better judgement, really, I seriously doubt I'll have the patience... but we'll find out won't we?!). We just moved to Texas at the beginning of the summer. I grew up in Vancouver, WA, and now that I've discovered all these amazing sewing blogs... you are all from near my hometown! Sigh.
    Anyway, my email is...

    Good luck on Tuesday!

  11. What a good time it looks like you had, bus trip and all! That dress pattern fabric looks like it's going to make a wonderful quilt - a lot of 'oh look at this block' fun. The 5 inch square would be wonderful for fussy cutting and not getting wonky squares from my current cardboard template lol. VermontPines@aol.com

  13. You know, I'm gonna go and say that even though you don't have any up for sale, I'd really like your new leaves templates.. I've bought the hexagon templates from you and I LOVE them, so I know I'll love the leaves too!

And I'm SO jealous you were at the sewing summit. I LIVE here in Sandy.. in fact I'm less than 2 miles away from Quilt Etc, and I didn't go! Mostly because I've got a nursing baby and that would have been really crazy trying to figure out the logistics of all of that.

    NEXT YEAR!!!!

  20. Good luck to hubs on his surgery. Lemme know if you want to come over with the kids and get away from the house once he's home. I love all your templates. Would probably get the most use out of the 5" square or the retro flowers.

  25. It was nice to meet you at The Sewing Summit! I would choose the 5 x 5" ruler, because that's something I really need.

Also, for a new product, I would suggest creating a set with a hexagon, diamond and jewel shape so that they can go together to make the star shapes I've been working on! That's just my 2 cents.

  26. What I really need is a 12.5" square, but as far as what's in your shop, I like the New Wave template :) I have got to expand my skills & get away from strip quilts!
I have been loving all the Sewing SUmmit posts on blogland, yours included!

  29. Awesome! And I'm glad I found your blog. It was so great to meet you last weekend, Jill! I guess I would pick the New Wave template because I've had that on my to-quilt list for quite some time. And I've already got a drunkard's path template, otherwise I'd pick that one! Thanks for sharing, Jill!
